John Calvin Environmentalist and Advocate For Justice?

John Calvin's birthday is coming up and there's a party going on for those who like him. Interestingly, the head of that party. Rev. Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick, president of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, seems to reveal that Calvin and Calvinism is similar to what we see today in the guise of say, a Tim Keller or Mark Driscoll.

He says the three most important points are:

The first theme, he said, is the call to share Calvin’s passion for the gift of communion.

The second theme, according to the WARC head, is covenanting for justice.

The third theme Kirkpatrick brought out was that of the sanctity of life and the environment.

Sadly, these are not in line with Scripture. Communion is specified in Scripture as to its meaning and partakers, justice and environmentalism are not part of a church's goal or focus (Col. 3:1-2). Rather these are earmarks of the Emergent Church Movement.

Go here to see Calvin's "justice".
