Tit 1:9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
Thinking biblical doctrine as optional is not holding firmly to the Word as taught. When this happens, they cannot nor will not give instruction in sound doctrine, nor abel to rebuke those who contradict it. This is a priority in what a true shepherd of God's sheep does: feed and protect them from poison and wolves.
Biblical Doctrine is never in the catagory of "personal conviction" or a "matter of personal preference" as in Romans 14. Biblical doctrine is commanded to be believed and obeyed.
Psa 119:140 Your Word is pure and Your servant loves it.
Pro 13:13 Whoever despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.
