70 Years Later, WW 2 Hero Gets His Promised Pint From The Commander He Saved

Fearless Fred Harris hoisted his wounded battlefield commander Hugh Beach into an armoured car during a machine gun fight.
The heroic actions of the 21-year-old at La Bassee in northern France in 1944 were forgotten until a million-to-one chance meeting.
Sir Hugh, later a general who was knighted by the Queen, was on a battle-field tour when he realised another tour member, Michael Harris, was the son of the man to whom he owes his life.
