Just as the tendency of hatred is often of the flesh and not the Spirit, so is today's tendency of
love.
To be biblical, we must both love and hate
according to the Scriptures and the Spirit.
See: Ps. 5:5-6; 11:5-6; Ps. 139:19-23;Ps. 26:4;31:6; Mal. 3:1 (repeated in Romans 9:13) (all of these use the same word for "hate" which means "hate"); 1Cor. 13:6.
We are to love and hate as God loves and hates. The motive behind both must be from a pure heart. To love OR to hate from selfish motives makes that love or that hatred sinful.
We are to be imitators of God, are we not? Or is that a command only in what people perceive as the "positive" things of God in which we are to imitate Him? Let's be honest, "Christians'" notion of love is often just as wrong as their perception of hatred: worldly and selfish.
