Reformers Tim Keller and Matt Chandler Continue Their Involvement In The Emergent Church Movement & Its Leaders

Matt Chandler continues to be part of the Emergent scene. He shares the Emergent platform with Ed Stetzer, Alan Hirsch, Dan Kimball and feminist pastor Linda Bergquist.

Tim Keller also continues his Emergent endorsement as one of the framers of the emergent "missionshift" manifesto alongside those I just mentioned above.

What is missionShift? Go here to find out.

Interesting I left that denomination a couple of years ago after a short stay...i didnt like their lack of stance on end times nor their replacement theology nor their tendency to preach to an audience of scholars ...who were not in attendence

I'm glad you saw the error. Its subtle for some who aren't either aware of what Scripture says or what these guys really are teaching/ supporting.

They reveal their man-centeredness and sin of favoritism (of the elite) and their lack of holding God's Word above all things. They are far more impressed with intellectual pursuits and study themselves away from the Truth. There really seems to be a lack of the fear of God, though. Its sad.

I happened upon this website. I go to Matt Chandlers church and it is not by any means an emergent church, in fact he speaks out against the emergent church. Also, the church does not endorse feminism, nor female pastors. Im uncertain about replacement theology. John Calvin did not believe in replacement theology and my church believes in a soft form of calvinism. But i am not a scholar and i dont feel preached to like im one. One thing I love about church is that a child can understand the messages and my friends who have never been to church in their life can go and understand exactly what is going on.

Hi April,

I've done a lot of research on Chandler and your church. I suggest you look into what I've uncovered.

Here: http://surphside.blogspot.com/2009/06/matt-chandler-showing-signs-of-being.html

And here:

He really is Emergent, or more precisely, a Charismatic Reformergent (you are right April, he's a soft Calvinist, not a real one). He teaches at Emergent conferences, shares the pulpit with Emergent leaders, including the feminists, & has Emergent books and language/phrasology at the church website. In fact the book list from your church website is chock-full of Emergent and Contemplative spirituality authors.

All of this information I've reported on at the above links.

You said April that a child and an unbeliever can go to your church and understand exactly what's going on. That is actually a concern because it if the Word is being faithfully taught, unbelievers would not understand and be offended (1 Peter 2:7-8).1Cor.2:14 "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised."

Perhaps April there is more worldliness in your church than you might realize, and that is what is appealing and understandable to those who are outside of Christ. I hope and pray you consider these things, as difficult as they might be.

I was very much harmed by the Village Church. I left there after nearly 10 years.
