Tobacco vs. Marijuana

Like tobacco smoke, marijuana smoke contains cancer-causing chemicals.  There are 33 cancer-causing chemicals contained in marijuana. Marijuana smoke also deposits tar into the lungs. In fact, when equal amounts of marijuana and tobacco are smoked, marijuana deposits four times as much tar into the lungs. This is because marijuana joints are un-filtered and often more deeply inhaled than cigarettes.

Marijuana smoke is also an irritant to the lungs, and frequent marijuana smokers can have many of the same respiratory problems experienced by people who smoke tobacco. These include coughing and phlegm production on most days, wheezing, bronchitis, and greater risk of lung infection.

Other Health Effects of Marijuana

Marijuana has many effects on the brain. It impairs short-term memory and motor coordination; slows reaction time; alters mood, judgment and decision-making; and in some people can cause severe anxiety or loss of touch with reality. Because of these effects, marijuana use more than doubles a driver’s risk of being in an accident.

Marijuana also affects the heart. The heart rate is raised 20-100 percent shortly after smoking, an effect which can last up to 3 hours and put users at an increased risk of heart attack.

Marijuana use can affect the general quality of the user’s life as well. Heavy marijuana users generally report lower life satisfaction, poorer mental and physical health, relationship problems and less academic and career success compared to their peers.

Youth and Marijuana

Marijuana use is particularly harmful to youth since the part of the brain that craves pleasure matures earlier than the area that controls our ability to understand risks and consequences. A national study by Monitoring the Future showed that in 2012 1.1% of 8th graders, 3.5% of 10th graders, and 6.5% of 12th graders reported using marijuana daily.
Marijuana is highly accessible, especially to older teenagers. In 2012, 37% of 8th graders, 69% of 10th graders, and 82% of 12th graders reported marijuana as being fairly easy or very easy to get. Studies show that as availability increases, perception of harm decreases.

The perception that there is no great risk in smoking marijuana is decreasing among youth. In 2012 66.9% of 8th graders, 50.9% of 10th graders and 44.1% of 12th graders said there was a great risk in smoking marijuana regularly. These numbers had been steadily declining over the last six years.

Is it Addictive?

Marijuana is often thought to not be addictive. However, marijuana dependence is the number 1 reason why youth in Colorado and the U.S. seek substance-abuse treatment. Youth are more likely than adults to become addicted to marijuana. About 4.5 million people in the U.S. meet clinical criteria for marijuana dependence.

THC stimulates brain cells to release the chemical dopamine, which creates a euphoric feeling and can lead to a physical addiction. Similar to tobacco withdrawal, people trying to quit marijuana report irritability, sleeping difficulties, craving, and anxiety.

If the Ethiopian eunuch is desirous of an understanding of God’s Word, Philip is sent to expound it to him. 

If Cornelius is praying for an opening up of the Gospel, Peter is charged to preach it to him. 

Elijah had received no intimations to where this widow resided, but Divine providence timed her steps so that she encountered him at the entrance to the city. What encouragements to faith are these!”

Mark Driscoll, Tim Challies, and the Rest of the Reformers: we told you so

Challies has written a piece called "Character is King" regarding Driscoll and the mess in Seattle. I've been restraining myself from commenting on the Driscoll debacle for several days, but today, a few thoughts. Challies writes, "As the situation comes into focus through scandal after scandal, it becomes increasingly clear that there are, and always have been, systemic issues at Mars Hill. Many of those issues are directly related to the sins and weaknesses of the church’s founder and leader."

When I and others warned about Driscoll back in 2004 on our blogs and in my case, on the radio show I hosted, we were roundly sneered at by the Reformed Club of Bloggers and the Driscoll fan club. It took about one tenth of a teaspoonful of discernment to see what Driscoll was in 2004. He reeked of anger, immaturity and pride, and the fact that he early on earned the label the "cussing pastor" spoke for itself. So now, in 2014, as countless victims have limped away from the spiritual abuse Driscoll engaged in, their families and faith damaged, Challies and company have decided that it is now, "increasingly clear that there are, and always have been, systemic issues at Mars Hill...many of those issues are directly related to the sins and weaknesses of the church's founder and leader." Mr. Challies, I have one word for you and the others who failed to speak out on Driscoll. Duh.

To those calling for an end to public discussion of Driscoll's collapse, I have a word for you. Driscoll wasn't just a pastor of a local church, minding his own business with his own authority (!) structure in place to deal with any problems. He was promoted and touted as an international celebrity of the Reformed world, and he made millions from the books, conferences, etc. that were marketed to the masses. The swaggering, swashbuckling poster boy for the Young, Restless and Reformed crowd, the one who would take Calvinism to a new generation. This is why it is all of our business. If you want to live on the Internet, on social media, and at internationally promoted conferences attended by tens of thousands who have nothing to do with your church in Seattle, you can expect to have your behavior addressed by the same. It amuses and disgusts me to hear claims of, "Oh, this is a private, in house church issue" when the issue is a celebrity pastor run amok. If these men wanted to be just local pastors they had no business selling themselves, their books, t-shirts, mouse pads, key chains, coffee mugs, conference tickets and life sized cutouts to the masses. You cannot have it both ways.

I have also seen urgent requests for prayer for Mark and his family. At risk of being redundant, let me urge prayer for his victims, as well, while you're on your knees. The ones with their faith nearly destroyed, the ones who were bullied, who spent years in that church thinking they were serving God, only to be shunned and discarded by the personality cult leader at Mars Hill. They are the ones I am concerned about. Mark has made enough money in one year to do just fine for the rest of his life. Those whose testimonies fill the Mars Hill abuse blogs are the ones on my heart, and those are the ones who deserve our prayer.

As for Challies and the Reformed Club of Bloggers who enabled Driscoll by their silence and delicate, nuanced criticisms (if they existed at all), I say, shame on you. We were right all along. And none of you will have the testosterone to admit it.

She said it better than I did, but we said the same thing. I put the blame for Driscoll's popularity in large part at the feet of the Reformed crowd who told people like us we're just catty, cackling, discerning women bloggers who OBVIOUSLY didn't know what we were talking about---"screetching" about something so inoculous as a dear brother, Mark Driscoll. Wait and see they said. Wait and let Piper mentor him. Yes, indeed that's what they did and low and behold, not only did Driscoll NOT improve with time, not only did Driscoll influence millions, but even his beloved mentor has ended up being the one learning and mimicking from the unholy wretched man himself--not the other way around. Bad company corrupts good morals, Scripture states. Indeed it does. The doctrine of separation (and rejection) is a command for a reason. A "little" leaven (much less a LOT OF leaven) leavens the whole loaf.

There Is Not Neutrality Toward God By Anyone

There is absolutely no neutrality toward God and sin at any time by anyone, especially those outside of Christ.

Those outside of Christ:

Does not accept the things of God

Cannot understand the things of God

Considers them foolish

These describe EVERY person outside of Christ Jesus. Every person is born hostile toward God.

Rom 8:7  because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8  and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 

Laziness In The Pulpit Leads To Demand For Experience and Not Doctrines of Jesus Christ

Truer even more today than in Pink's day! The WOF, NAR, and Reformergents all want experiences, not doctrinal truth. And their lives bear this out; they are so worldly and so impotent that there is no evidence of the Holy Living God residing within them.

NY's Teacher Union President Spews Violence and Bullying For Anyone Who Dares to Reject Common Core

Video surfaced on Thursday showing Michael Mulgrew, president of New York’s United Federation of Teachers, as he unloaded a hateful rant against critics of the Common Core Standards Initiative.

“If someone takes something from me, I’m going to grab it right back out of their cold, twisted, sick hands and say it is mine!” Mulgrew bellowed clownishly. “You do not take what is mine!”

The union boss also challenged opponents of Common Core and union control over education to a fist fight.

“I’m going to punch you in the face and push you in the dirt because this is the teachers’!” Mulgrew threatened.

What happened to the anti-bullying campaign that no doubtedly runs in "HIS" schools? He sounds more like a union thug than an informed, reasonable man.

Compare this with what a teacher who actually worked with Common Core development and review said:

The reality is that the entire Common Core beast, including the never-before-tested-standards that were created in secret, the tests which were based on those standards, and the data suctioning systems which were put in place to track our children’s personal information and monitor teacher compliance with Common Core Central, should be slayed and buried in total. States’ Governors and Superintendents of Education were elected to protect the interests of our children, yet they let this Common Core beast through the gates. There should be a call for them to resign and/or not seek re-election in light of their educational malpractice.

Having said all this, the one concrete thing that Americans should fear most is the NSA-like data suctioning systems set in place by the Common Core groups to gather all manner of data about our children and their families starting in preschool and going up through college and career. (More on that in the later question on SLDS).

Driscoll: theologically conservative but culturally liberal

"But despite his popularity in the evangelical world, Driscoll’s ministry has proved to be highly controversial because of his unconventional ways and dubious methods, which he describes as ‘theological conservative and culturally liberal’."

The problem is that that's a false dichotomy. That's assuming that theology has nothing to do with how one lives in the culture, which is in fact the heart of Easy Believism. HOW you live reveals what your ACTUAL theology is. What you believe is lived out. So to say you are "theologically conservative" is a lie if you are a liberal culturally. Liberalism comes from a worldview which isn't biblical.

To believe Driscoll is theologically correct while understanding he is "culturally liberal" (or "relevant" as the Emergents like to say), is to admit that theology as NO BEARING on one's life. It is merely saying confession is "good enough", not both confession and possession.  1 John is huge on this.

1Jn 1:6  If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;

1Jn 2:3  By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. 

1Jn 2:4  The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 

1Jn 3:3  And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 4  Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. 

1Jn 3:7  Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous;

Ann Coulter and Narcissism of American Christianity

I wonder how the Ebola doctor feels now that his humanitarian trip has cost a Christian charity much more than any services he rendered. 

What was the point? 

Whatever good Dr. Kent Brantly did in Liberia has now been overwhelmed by the more than $2 million already paid by the Christian charities Samaritan's Purse and SIM USA just to fly him and his nurse home in separate Gulfstream jets, specially equipped with medical tents, and to care for them at one of America's premier hospitals. (This trip may be the first real-world demonstration of the economics of Obamacare.) 

But serving the needy in some deadbeat town in Texas wouldn't have been "heroic." We wouldn't hear all the superlatives about Dr. Brantly's "unusual drive to help the less fortunate" or his membership in the "Gold Humanism Honor Society." Leaving his family behind in Texas to help the poor 6,000 miles away -- that's the ticket.

Today's Christians are aces at sacrifice, amazing at serving others, but strangely timid for people who have been given eternal life. They need to buck up, serve their own country, and remind themselves every day of Christ's words: "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you."

There may be no reason for panic about the Ebola doctor, but there is reason for annoyance at Christian narcissism.

Very interesting. I'm not a fan of her's and I know she's not a Christian (I think she's RCC), but she makes some salient points--a few that I myself have also thought about..mainly about the narcissism of Christianity and the social justice/liberation theology most have. They think humanitarian efforts (of which Oprah  is the queen) is a sign of spirituality. They think a silent witness while building a house or dumping dolls and soccer balls upon poor people will make them feel good, even like Jesus, but they leave out the singular issue: preaching the biblical Gospel about the biblical Jesus. They think that they must entice the wicked in order to "earn the right to be heard" and then they never say a thing. 

Many times we've been approached to give money to a young person who wants to "serve" in another country for short-term missions. I won't give anymore because I believe that what they really want, generally speaking, is a free vacation and then try to justify it as a mission by slapping on some religious activity and have me pay for it. Folks, if you aren't already evangelizing in your own city why do you think God would call you to evangelize in another country suddenly? He expects us to do the work here first. Moreover if you really are sharing the biblical Gospel, you won't be applauded by those whom you are speaking to---you'll be rejected. That's a promise. Moreover is that persecution will come your way as we see repeatedly in the book of Acts.

I had a family member do this with a baseball evangelist outreach one summer and when my husband asked what they did to preach the Gospel personally with the other teams, someone remarked "every pitch he throws is sharing Jesus!". SAY WHAT? The Gospel is PREACHED, it is not silent. People must "hear" the Gospel. It isn't something you can "see" (which reminds me that I also had a friend who told me their pastor mimed the Gospel one Easter and I was taken aback--you can't mime the Gospel!) People rather work "good" works than PREACH the Gospel to the lost. The wicked world is happy to feed the poor and build houses for the homeless (how can they afford the taxes and upkeep on that is beyond me). Who can reject a free house, free medical care, or free meals? But tell them of their wickedness before a HOLY HOLY HOLY God? Now that's totally offensive and they won't dare to that!

Mark Driscoll and Mars Hill Church Told to Step Down From Acts 29 Network

Acts 29 has supported Driscoll during recent controversies while relying on Mars Hill's BoAA to address the problems, the letter states.
"We have both publicly and internally tried to support and give you the benefit of the doubt, even when multiple pastors in our network confirmed this behavior," the letter says. "But we no longer believe the BoAA is able to execute the plan of reconciliation originally laid out. Ample time has been given for repentance, change, and restitution, with none forthcoming. We now have to take another course of action."

Those men should repent and step down too. The arrogance is disgusting. Others kept telling them, but they clung to their money making idol. Only when it came to bad PR did they take action of any significance. What happened to Matt. 18???

Mat 18:15 "If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.

Unless you are a man of POWER and prestige, your witness won't count for anything. Utterly pathetic.

I might also note the irony of the Emeregent desire to be rebellious and so un-churchy, having one man "in power like he know what he's talking about" has now been exposed for what it is: narcissism and fleshliness.

Had men listened to people like us 10 years ago, perhaps this could have been curtailed and the life of Acts “29” shortened, along with the deception of hundreds of thousands  with Reformergent (Reformed Emergents, aka New Calvinism) minimized. No one wanted to hear the serious concerns about Driscoll and Acts “29” and it took many to bear the ridicule of those who wanted to give Driscoll the benefit of the doubt and more time. The same way they have with Driscoll’s mentor and defender, John Piper. What Driscoll is, a false professor with no fruit but that of wickedness, has been known for at least ten years.

The man has never proven to have had true repentance. He plays the Christian rebel game, fooling those without discernment, but he has been transparent for years. He has yet to show true salvation that is met with true fruit of repentance.

God will not be mocked. People need to remember the way in which Driscoll has repeatedly treated that which is pure as if it’s impure. He has treated Jesus Christ with utter contempt and irreverence (“Vintage Jesus” is merely one book with multitudes of examples).  He treats intimacy with impurity. He treats the pastorship with irreverence.  His mouth, his thoughts, his pornographic charismatic visions, his bullying of others, his misogyny, are all fruit of wickedness while slapping the holy name of Jesus Christ onto it and calling it “authentic Christianity”.  We should stay out of the way as the HOLY HOLY HOLY One of Israel deals with this false teacher who mocks Christ our Sovereign Lord.

CNN Cross Fire Host Admits Omission of Hama's Clear Cut Goal of Annihilating Israel and All Jews In It's Charter

Cupp began by saying that the media treats Hamas like a “political organization” with reasonable demands instead of focusing on their “true objectives, which are the total destruction of Israel and annihilation of the Jews.”

“So for media reports to omit that and just talk about the political demands seems like a real glaring example of either bias or a Hamas victory on the PR front,” Cupp said.

Ultimately, she said by failing to mention Hamas’ charter, the media is creating a “moral equivalency” between Hamas and Israel that just doesn’t exist.

Two More Examples of Why I Say That A Muslim's Loyalty Will Always Be For Islam, the Quran, and Allah, No Matter His Country

Omeirat was contrite as he resigned: “I regret what I said. It was the wrong choice of words and no one should say something like that.” Why not, Omar? After all, it’s in the Qur’an — own it!

Qur’an 2:65 — Allah transforms disobedient Jews into apes: “And well you know there were those among you [Jews] that transgressed the Sabbath, and We said to them, ‘Be you apes, miserably slinking!’”

Qur’an 7:166 — Jews are apes: “And when they [Jews] turned in disdain from that forbidding We said to them, ‘Be you apes, miserably slinking!’”

As  The Local (Swedish news site) reported:

"The entire Muslim world is sitting and watching while our brothers and sisters in Palestine are slaughtered by the Jewish pigs," Omeritat wrote on his Facebook page.

"May Allah strengthen those who defend Palestine, and be merciful towards the dead Muslims. Amen."

His Facebook page also included a flag used by the Islamist group Isis, local paper NWT reported.

The post quickly became public knowledge, and the young politician came under fire for his choice of words. 

Meanwhile, in the UK, British-born Baroness Sayeeda Warsi quit Parliament over the way  PM Cameron and the UK government is handling the Hamas/Israel war.

"Sayeeda Warsi stormed out, branding the Government’s stance on Israel “morally indefensible” and detrimental to Britain’s national interest.", reported the The Daily Express.

In her tweet, she said in part, according to the same Daily Express article:

“My view has been that our policy in relation to the Middle East Peace Process generally but more recently our approach and language during the current crisis in Gaza is morally indefensible, is not in Britain’s national interest and will have a long term detrimental impact on our reputation internationally and domestically."

A Muslim is a Muslim not matter his country. That's where his loyalty will always ultimately lie. Their worldview IS Islam.

Freemont School District Defends 9th Grade Sex-Ed "Health" Book's Push of Sex Toys, Bondage, and Worse

The book, titled “Your Health Today” is almost 400 pages long and among the subject includes information on bondage, orgasms, vibrators, along with explicit drawings and diagrams.

The text also describes how to buy and use condoms and addresses masturbation, binge-drinking and shows sex organs in various stages of arousal.

“Our high-school students today need all the tools they can have to arm themselves to make the best- informed decision,” said the school district’s Board President, Lara Calvert-York. Teachers from the district unanimously chose the book to incorporate in classes.

Jim Morris, the Fremont Unified School District superintendent, said teachers won’t be teaching about sex toys, but that overall the textbook is very good.

This has nothing to do with health. It has everything to do with sexual immorality, defying parents, and of course set up a built-in customer base for Planned Parenthood.

Moreover, they are pushing what adults wrongly find acceptable as adults, onto CHILDREN!

This should be considered abuse because as one parent rightly stated, this is pornography. It also is trying to seduce children into sexual activity they are not capable of dealing with, nor should they be since sex is solely to be within the confines of marriage. What this book promotes is dirty, impure, and inappropriate. Leave it to the liberals to do something so immature and so horrible, much less without even considering the serious consequences including long term ones, for exposing children to this.

Let's say that you pull your kid out of this class. He or she still has to deal with the hundreds that attend it and are exposed to all of this filth, which WILL affect their thinking and behavior (like conversations and influencing others to join them in "trying" this stuff out). In other words, removing you child from the class IS NOT ENOUGH!!
