The Fatal Flaw of "Born-Againism"

A good article dealing with "born-againism".

In the third chapter of John’s Gospel, Jesus tells Nicodemus, “You must be born again.” What did the Lord mean by this statement? First of all, it should be noted that Jesus said nothing of any action or decision that Nicodemus must make, nor did He even tell him to repent and believe the gospel. As a matter of fact, Jesus was not telling Nicodemus to do anything! “You must be born again” was not a command Nicodemus was to obey, it was simply a statement of fact. Nicodemus, in his blindness, misunderstood this statement and asked how anyone could do such a thing as that —a man “cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” To this Jesus said in effect, “I’m not talking to you about you doing anything, I’m talking about God doing something.” “I’m talking about the Spirit of God coming and miraculously generating life in you.

You being flesh can only produce flesh. Only the Spirit of God can produce the spiritual birth you must have in order to enter the Kingdom of God, and God’s Spirit blows where He wishes” (John 3:1-8).

The modern evangelist’s techniques and teaching are conspicuously absent in this account. The Lord gave Nicodemus no “Four Spiritual Laws,” nor any instructions on “How to be Born Again,” and He certainly used no manipulative tricks. He was concerned to emphasize just one thing. Regeneration is a miraculous work of God’s Spirit....

We can, and must, tell men to turn from their sins and believe the Gospel, but in doing this we should realize that when a man does repent and believe, it is the result of God’s prior regenerative working within him. If this were not the case, if man must actually initiate his own salvation, then it would be impossible to escape the conclusion that men do not need regeneration at all, but possess in themselves an innate goodness which causes them to seek after God. Though it be ever so slight, this goodness is then the ultimate reason why one man is saved and another is lost. But the apostle Paul clearly teaches the contrary when he writes:

There is none righteous, not even one;

There is none who understands,

There is none who seeks for God...

There is none who does good,

There is not even one (Romans 3:10-12)

Here Paul states plainly that there is no “spark of goodness” in man that causes him to respond to the gospel. In fact, man, blinded by sin and Satan, does not even understand the gospel. He is in total rebellion against God and His truth. If regeneration were contingent upon man first desiring God, no one would ever be born again, for “there is none who seeks for God.”

The Great Danger In the Christian Churches Today

Exactly!! I would add, the dangerous ones are those who also, while claiming solid doctrine turn around and more than greet a false teacher (2 John 9-11), actually promote the false teacher as legitimate, thus giving credibility to a wolf all the while slamming those who recognize the wolf as mean, slanderers, disrespectful, etc.

1Pe 5:8  Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9  But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

Chuck Colson, who died recently, was a traitor to Christ Jesus, embracing the false gospel of the Roman Catholic Church and then tried to get Evangelicals to agree to a "common ground" with them (he helped author the "Evangelicals And Catholics Together" document), which, according to 2Cor. 6 :14-18 can't happen. He did  great damage to the cause of Christ and the Gospel.  There's no "balance" here; there's no other way to say it: his treachery was sealed decades ago and he continued in that treachery.  How often people ask for "balance" in dealing with a celebrity "Christian" and yet a "balanced" view always seems to assume truth and error, right and wrong, some sort of middle of the road so as to not seem "too extreme". Well, God is "extreme", black and white. Scripture is too. We're either saved or lost, in the kingdom of darkness or the kingdom of God's Son, born again or dead, in the light or in darkness, in Christ or in Adam, unregenerate or regenerated, justified or unjustified, saved by grace alone or dead in our works and sin, believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ or remain under God's wrath. There's no middle ground here, no "balanced" view. No fence sitting. No "truth in everything" mentality.

One simply cannot claim to be a Christian and yet promote Romanism, its that simple.

There is but one way of justification which is by faith alone in  Christ alone (Rom. 4), as is salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone (Eph. 2:8-10). Rome has a false gospel of works and idolatry. This is absolutely offensive to God and damnable doctrine.

This week, Joel Osteen has endorsed Mormon Mitt Romney as a Christian.

John Piper endorses Rick Warren as a Christian.

Where's the difference? Both Romney and Warren are unsaved. I wonder if Piper fans will be as accommodating with Osteen as they are with their favorite author/speaker.

Warren is a heretic and a liar  and Driscoll is a false teacher.

Recall this.

Act 20:29  "I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;30  and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.31  "Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears. 

Rom 16:17  Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.18  For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

Doctrine Is Essential

2Co 11:3  But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be

led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.4  For if one comes and preaches

another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not

received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.

Doctrine (teaching) defines beliefs and practice, that's why it matters. Biblical doctrine leads to sound thinking and obedient lives as one grows in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Unbiblical doctrine, especially anti-biblical doctrine, leads to unsound thinking and rebelliousness.

"Do you see how the new philosophy necessarily undermines sound doctrine? It discards Jesus' own methods---preaching and teaching--as the primary means of ministry. It replaces them with methodologies utterly devoid of substance....In fact it avoids dogma or strong convictions as divisive, unbecoming,, or inappropriate. It dismisses doctrine as academic, abstract, sterile, threatening, or simply impractical. Rather than teaching error or denying truth, it does something far more subtle, but just as effective from the enemy’s point of view. It jettisons content altogether. Instead of attacking orthodoxy head-on, it gives lip service to the truth while quietly undermining the foundations of doctrine. Instead of exalting God, it denigrates the things that are precious to Him. In that regard, pragmatism poses dangers more subtle than the liberalism that threatened the church in the first half of the century."

Jimmy Carter Denies Scripture Is Inspired And Denies Jesus Taught Against Homosexuality

Isa 5:20  Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! 21  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes And clever in their own sight! 

Jimmy Carter has come out with his own bible.

During his book tour to promote a study of the Scriptures, Carter mentioned he supports same-sex “marriage.”

Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things – he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies. (emphasis from the article)

When Raushenbush pressed him about whether he believed the Bible is God’s word, Carter answered, “the basic principles of the Bible are taught by God, but written down by human beings deprived of modern day knowledge. So there is some fallibility in the writings of the Bible. But the basic principles are applicable to my life and I don’t find any conflict among them.”

“There are many verses in the Bible that you could interpret very rigidly,” Carter said, “and that makes you ultimately into a fundamentalist.”

I consider Carter to be a reprobate. Repeatedly over the years he dares question God's Word and rebels against the Truth. For example, he was so upset with the SBC years ago for its biblical stand on wives submitting to their husbands as Scripture clearly commands, he left it.

First of all, his mere notes and opinions put into the Bible is ridiculous. Its the height of arrogance. What he thinks, what he has prayed, etc. has no bearing on Scripture nor gives proper interpretation to it. Of course, this is the very Bible he scorns and repudiates. Why bother with a Bible when you mock Its Author and correct Him?

Secondly Carter is ignorant of Scripture.

Here is the pre-incarnate Christ speaking:

Gen 18:20  And the LORD said, "The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave.

He then destroys forever Sodom, Gomorrah and the surrounding cities for such great sin.


Jesus, Who personally saw the exceedingly great and grave sin of Sodom and then destroyed them for it, confirms their rightful punishment:

Mat 11:24  But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you."  

Perhaps reading it in red will cause Carter to see Jesus confirming their eternal damnation.

Carter seems to reject the fact that Jesus is ETERNALLY GOD and was the One who saw AND punished with fire and brimstone, the homosexuals in Sodom and Gomorrah. God revealed Himself prior to the destruction of the cities and afterward that He is the God Who Sees and Hears, and is all powerful. I'm sure that's missing in his poor attempt to re-write Scripture.

Carter therefore denies that Jesus is the Author of all of Scripture. Jesus quoted from the Old Testament all the time: "Is it not written" was an often used phrase of His. All of Scripture is the inspired Word of God (2Tim. 3:16-17).  He is what is called a Red Letter "Christian"--like what Tony Campolo, another pro-sodomite liberal, is. This is damnable heresy because it utterly rejects Scripture and calls God a liar.

Joh 8:31  So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My

word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32  and you will know the truth, and the

truth will make you free."

A Similar Thread Between Piper and Driscoll Leaving

Timing is very important, and there's no such thing as a coincidence. The fact that both Driscoll and Piper have stepped down from key positions this week is one of those. I also noted a similarity in their reasoning.

Mark Driscoll Steps Down From Head of Acts 29 and TGC Council

X-rated Mark Driscoll has stepped down as head of his Acts 29 ministry, handing it off to current board member Matt Chandler and Darrin Patrick, also currently on the board.Not much will change, I suspect, because the leadership is not changing, just re-arranging. Driscoll will remain on the board.

So all of this, the new arrangement and the extremely close connection Chandler has had with Emergent Acts 29 and Driscoll confirms what I'v seen over the years, but many people did not want to believe.

In addition Driscoll has also stepped down from The "Gospel" Coalition council as well.

Pray For The Wolves?

Here is an excellent article at Defending Contending asking if its biblically required of us to pray for false teachers. In part the article states:

We can no more pray into Heaven an “accursed” false prophet who’s “reserved” for destruction any more then we can stop God through prayer from burning up this present earth that He’s “reserved” for fire (2 Peter 3:7). 

We also see that there’s an imperishable inheritance “reserved” for those born again (1 Peter 1:3-4). I would as soon expect man to be capable of altering this “reserved” blessing as much as he would be able to derail the “reserved” judgment of a wolf, in addition to being able to derail the hope that believers are “destined” not for wrath but for salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:9). 

The surety of something being “reserved” by God cannot simply be glossed over. We see this again in 2 Peter 2:1-4 in which God’s judgment of the wolves is from “long ago” and is “reserved” for them just like it is for the angels who sinned. 

If both Jude and Peter tell us that these men are “reserved” for Hell, and Paul tells us they’re “accursed,” then I can conclude and fully understand why we are never commanded or shown by example to “Love false teachers and pray for them.” Anyone, including our enemies, can be granted repentance unto life (Acts 11:18), but it seems to me that Scripture reveals those “reserved” for darkness cannot.  

Although I don’t believe it is wrong nor a sin if you pray for a wolf, I do believe, however, that the argument that unless you’ve prayed for a false prophet then you can’t speak out against a false prophet is nothing more than a straw man. It’s a weak attempt by those protecting the wolves to divert the attention away from the wolf and his wicked ways, and putting the one exposing him on the defense . . . a clever tactic I would expect Satan to employ. ~Source

The author does make it clear he's not condemning praying for the wolves, but he is asking a fair question since its the accusing question "But have you prayed for _______?"  by those who refuse to acknowledge the condemnation of false teachers.  The author also makes a distinction between those who are lay people in deception--many of whom we have seen come to salvation in Jesus Christ. Its well worth reading and considering.


I would also add that we are not  commanded to personally address a wolf either but instead utterly reject the person without even greeting him or her (2John 9-11).  There is no need to personally go to a wolf  because they are public figures already and thus are open to public rebuke and rejection. Instead they are to be exposed and warned about. 

Eph 5:6  Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Eph 5:7  Therefore do not be partakers with them;

Eph 5:8  for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light

Eph 5:9  (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),

Eph 5:10  trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

Eph 5:11  Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;

Eph 5:12  for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 

Comfort in the cloudy and dark day!

"God, who comforts those who are downcast." 2 Corinthians 7:6

Many things cast us down--but only our God can effectually comfort us. He is the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. He delights to comfort His people--when comfort will do them good. He secures their welfare first--and makes comfort a secondary object. But He never sees His child in sorrow, without sympathy; nor long withholds the necessary cordial.

He comforts the downcast--especially those who are employing their talents in His service, and consecrating their energies to His praise.

Sometimes He brings home a sweet passage of His Word.

Sometimes He sends a Christian friend to speak with us.

Sometimes He cheers us through the preaching of the gospel.

Sometimes a sweet, soothing, comforting light beams upon the soul--and we feel relieved, refreshed, and encouraged; but scarcely know how or by what.

The Lord sends the comfort--whoever brings it. He is the Comforter of the downcast, and to Him alone let us look for comfort in the cloudy and dark day!

Pat Robertson Blames People For The Deadly Tornadoes

Well, Pat Robertson is at it again. He really needs to be silent. Here's what he's saying about the recent deadly tornadoes:

He states that God doesn't send tornadoes and these were not acts of God, its just the air currents He set up.  He sounds a lot like Rick Warren and both of them are showing just how impotent their god is.Actually they also show just how impotent they are too, especially charismatic leader and false teacher Robertson. Here is Warren's statement and my response. Since they are similar, I thought I'd post it here.

"God’s will is not done most of the time on earth. When people go, “oh, that hurricane must have been God’s will” – baloney! That wasn’t God’s will. God’s will is not done most of the time. If I go out and get drunk and run over a pregnant mother and kill her and her baby, that’s not God’s will, that’s my will." ~Rick Warren, in his belief.net interview in 2008 to promote his "The Purpose of Christmas".

As I said about Warren, this also applies to Robertson:

Contrary to Rick’s god, the true God of Scripture takes credit for the weather, as it is His tool to do His bidding:

Exo 9:18 Behold, about this time tomorrow I will cause very heavy hail to fall, such as never has been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now.

Job 38:22 "Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, 23 which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war?

Psa 78:47 He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamores with frost.

Psa 105:32 He gave them hail for rain, and fiery lightning bolts through their land.

Psa 148:7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, 8 fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling His word!

Because God is Sovereign and Creator, He does as He wishes with the weather. The Flood is a good example of this, as is the drought of three years during Isaiah’s time. God’s is actively bringing about His plan---His plan revealed is called prophecy. It seems that Rick has issues with this.God is truly in control of His whole creation and this is cause for great comfort and peace:

Ps. 33: 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

Dan 2:20 Daniel answered and said: "Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. 21 He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;

Robertson blamed for not praying the storm away. After all Jesus spoke the storm away, we can too. Does he realize that there were many Christians affected by the deadly tornadoes? Where's the man's compassion, at least? 

Pat Robertson also asked why "build houses where tornadoes are apt to happen?" In regard to hurricanes: "The fact that people want  to build houses on the edge of an ocean is their fault, not God's."  So where did he grow up and where did he build his Regent  University? Virginia. The school is right on the "edege of an ocean; that is, at  Virginia Beach, VA. I believe he also resides in there as well. Virginia has seen many tornadoes and storms over the centuries.

According to Hurricanes and the Middle Atlantic,  Virginia "is at risk for high winds, coastal flooding, rainfall flooding, and tornadoes."

"During the past century, all sections in the eastern half of the state have experienced
hurricane force gusts, if not sustained hurricane strength winds. High wind events of the
past hundred years occurred in 1933, 1936, 1944, 1954, 1955, 1960, 1985, 1996 and
2003. Hurricane Isabel in 2003 was the last tropical cyclone to bring significant coastal

southeastern Virginia and is among the periodic tropical cyclones that have generated

It also listed among the more notorious storms of the centuries:

2011   Hurricane Irene tracked along the coast on August 27. Heavy rain, including 

some totals more than 10 inches, fell on eastern sections of Virginia. Irene lashed 

the eastern third of Virginia with tropical storm and isolated hurricane force gusts. 

In early September, the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee produced flash flooding  

in some sections of eastern Virginia, with the Washington, DC, suburbs particularly hard hit.

So given Robertson's own words, its his fault for building a school where its prone to be hit by massive storms. I sure hope they don't use any government money to repair damages.

This man, who is a false teacher and a false prophet is cruel in his doctrine and inaction. After all, he claims he has much power as a Charismatic with the sign gifts. So why didn't he pray away the storms himself, instead of sitting there "letting" them happen? I mean if that's for anyone to do, certainly he could have done it himself. Of course, I am positive that many true Christians were in fact asking the Lord to move the storms, if He so chose to do so. But see, the God of Scripture is absolutely and completely Sovereign over His entire creation. It was indeed His will to bring these tornadoes to these specific places. Why? Well specifically we don't know, but we do know that all He does is just, good, and right. Perhaps this was a tool of judgement for some, a wake up call for others, and the tool He used to save some.  I know many of us were praying for God's protection of His own in those places but also that they would be a bold testimony for HIM.

Greed, Immorality, And Cover-Ups Listed In Lawsuit Against TBN and the Crouchs

It appears the dirty deeds of TBN and its god, Money, is being revealed.  The Crouches and TBN are being outted by their granddaughter and her husband, and as typical of the Crouches, in turn being threated with the hand of God against them. Guess what? God's hand is actually against TBN and the Crouches.  They blaspheme God and His name, are full of greed,  and teach damnable doctrine. Their fear tactics are powerless and frankly, tiresome.

1Ti 6:3  If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound

words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to

godliness,4  he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in

controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive

language, evil suspicions,5  and constant friction between men of depraved mind and

deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. 

2Jn 1:9  Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have
