2Co 4:2 But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God.
Ergun Caner, under the gun for lying about his past, has claimed that quotes from Muslims are somehow not credible. Granted, Muslims are not Christian-friendly, but does that mean they are ALWAYS automatically wrong? I find that alone to be a logical fallacy (the thing academics love to use against those who argue with them).
Here, as reported by Apprising Ministries, James White again addresses the lies of Caner after contacting both Caner AND the Muslim Shabir Ally he claimed to have debated.
The timeline of facts are given here.
If a public person is going to brag about what he is, does, did, and knows, then he better be able to back it up with facts. Sadly pride and arrogance and a need to please men overtakes some. But when you start with a gospel that is man-centered, that is what you will live up to: man-centeredness in life and doctrine.
And now we're seeing its ugly fruit.
Will Liberty, out of conviction from God, deal openly, swiftly, and biblically with Caner? Or will their school name merely mean Liberty To Lie? That's not liberty; its licsence to sin, which Scripture condemns.
Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
1Pe 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

This guy Caner is a clear example of using God--using the Gospel for personal gain. In the process of personal gain he uses lies mixing with Gospel. In essence, there is nothing he would not do to promote himself. This guy is the Simon Magus of SBC. This guy is also the product of SBC culture--particularly the fundamentalist wing of the Baptists--e.g., Jerry Falwell, Paige Patterson, etc.
I assure you that there will be more Ergun Caner produced by SBC in times to come.
