Mat 6:1 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
Mat 6:2 "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
Mat 6:3 "But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
Mat 6:4 so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
So many churches trumpet their compassion and good works by proudly and constantly displaying their humanitarian deeds and programs. I think Matt. 6 addresses this well. Works righteousness isn't righteous, its pride and of the flesh and in no way pleases the Lord Jesus Christ. To use such things to entice the world is also dishonoring to Him and frankly, dishonest. We can't nor should try to bait people into a church, much less Christianity, by promising food, clothes, shelter, or money. That is appealing to the flesh and winning them to the flesh. The Gospel is the enemy of the flesh and seeks to destroy it and focus on Christ alone. Gimmicks of trying to get the world to like you in hopes of liking Christ are unholy and disloyal to Him.
