1Pe 2:11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.
This world and society are not our home. We are exiles and pilgrims. Our investment is in Heaven, in eternal things. Also, this world and our flesh is not neutral toward God, but rather are at war against our souls. There is no neutrality toward God and sin for anyone at any time. To abstain from the passions of the flesh necessarily means to not use what feeds it to "glorify" God; that is to say, what appeals to the world and the flesh, because they are by nature God-haters, should never be appeased or appealed to for by doing so, one necessarily becomes hostile toward God (see James 4).
