As in "my son is a good son" even though said son is a known gang-banger. Or a drug user. A thug.
Or a murderer.
Words we use have meaning and we need to always ask the meaning of words particularly when people use them to define a person, action, or movement. What basis or standard do they use to call something or someone "good" or "bad", "right" or "wrong"?
To call someone "good" when they are bad is to portray them as better than they are, and thus to elevate any proper consequences for bad behavior. Its to lessen what is evil to something far more tolerable and thus no need to call anyone to morally proper judgment and action.
And it hurts not only individuals in the case, like the victim (the true victim yes, even "victim" has been redefined!), as in the case I'm about to mention, the DEAD victim), but his or her family, and the town, state, and nation in which it occurred.
Case in point:
The three bored OK teens who decided to hunt down Australian baseball player Christopher Lane of Melbourne, who was here visiting, and jogging last Friday. They shot him in the back. One of them said they were bored.
As reported:
Hicks
charged Chancey Allen Luna, 16, and James Francis Edwards, Jr., 15, of Duncan,
with first-degree murder. Under Oklahoma law they will be tried as adults.
Luna’s
mother, Jennifer Luna, said her son likes to play basketball at a local court
and play on his iPhone and Xbox.
“I
know my son. He is a good kid,” she said.
End quote.Good kids don't go around and shoot people for sport, Jennifer.
Good parents don't let their kids get THAT bored either.
Good parents are responsible for their children and train them to be responsible teenagers.
No, Jennifer, your kid isn't good, he's bad. And not just bad. He's an evil person with a hard, evil heart, full of pride, arrogance, hatred, anger, irrationality, and disrespect of others.
Scripture speaks of such people of our day:
2Ti 3:1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God
Rom 1:28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
Is. 5: 20 Woe
to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and
light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Isa 45:19 …I the LORD speak the truth; I declare what
is right.
