This could've been ripped right out of Rick Warren's playbook.
John Hagee, a pastor of a large church in San Antonio, Texas, says, according to My San Antonio:
"that he no longer opposes a proposed ordinance that seeks to protect the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people in San Antonio.
At issue was a clause that would have allowed the council to consider whether candidates for city boards and commissions had discriminated against gay and transgender people in “word or deed” — which opponents saw as an invitation to consider their socially conservative views on homosexuality.
“All of the previous language that infringed upon the freedom of speech, the freedom of exercise of religion and the ability for people of faith to serve on City Council has been expunged,” Hagee told the Cornerstone audience, prompting a standing ovation at the first Sunday service.
Another lawyer working with a local network of pastors and business people to defeat the proposal said Sunday the revisions aren't enough because the ordinance could still penalize firms and individuals for acting in accordance with their religion.
“No protection for people in how they speak and express their religious beliefs,” said Robert P. Wilson, an attorney for Alliance Defending Freedom. “On one hand, (the proposal) is promoting equality. On the other hand, it criminalizes religious convictions if a business does not operate according to the way the city says is” right.
End quote.
Well, there's no surprise there. When a person doesn't stay faithful to the Scriptures and seeks the approval of men, this is merely part of the process. But God will not be mocked.
Rom 1:32 Though they know God's decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
The way Satan weasels his way into "Christian" circles, is by his messengers who appear to be angels of light, when in reality they are of darkness, of him in fact. And they "sneak in among you" which means that they have a facade of being a Christian, claiming belief in the Truths of Scripture, but in reality that is a mere cloak to start teaching false doctrine. Today its by way of the new claim that a person can be a sodomite of the heart (usually nicely packaged as "attracted to the same sex") as long as they don't "act" on that attraction (again, always the eternal victim without victory over sin---God calls such attraction "unnatural desires" and is the result of not acknowledging Him, according to Romans 1). Now its also seeping in by being tolerant as "humans" to give them rights and privileges as if it were a legitimate lifestyle.
So when a man like Hagee, who is a false teacher, starts this tolerance nonsense and then hails his saving work (ie, he was able to get the wording fixed so he could play the foot-in-both-camps game), its no surprise.
This has nothing to do with rights, but has to do with silencing those who still know that sodomy is wrong and harmful. All citizens are protected by the Constitution. This has to do with bullying those who say sodomites are wrong and their behavior not only is immoral and unnatural, but should not be tolerated.
Nothing like hypocrites who want to give special rights to one group by denouncing the Constitutional rights to another.
