The Lesser of Two Evils: the legacy

When our state had a special election because people were upset with then-Governor Grey Davis, I did some reading about then-Republican candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger and found out he was actually pretty liberal. He was for homosexual rights and for abortion, two issues that by necessity make him liberal and thus not a true Republican. He was merely a composite of what is wrong with the GOP, which is why I left the party.*** UPDATE at the bottom of this post***

I remember just about all the "conservative" and "Christian" people I knew were pushing for Schwarzenegger's election, deeming him the best choice out of the 100 or so free-for-all open election (yes, it was that ridiculous--even a porn star ran for governor). I tried to tell everyone I knew, especially at my church, why Schwarzenegger was a bad choice; that he wasn't conservative at all. Nevertheless, they continued to push his candidacy.

Upon reading an article today regarding the recent California AB 1266 which allows students who claim a "gender identity issue" to use gender-specific facilities, a summary of the assault this state has against normal, traditional families shows why I knew the Republican "lesser evil" was nothing BUT evil. It demonstrates the compromise in one area will spill into other areas; there is no compartmentalizing values or lack of them:

In short, here is what "conservative Christians" brought to our state (thank you VERY much):

SB 543, signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010, “allows school staff to remove children ages 12 and up from government schools and taken off-campus for counseling sessions, without parental permission or involvement. The purpose is to permit pro-homosexuality teachers and administrators to remove sexually confused children in 6th grade and up from campus and take them to pro-homosexuality counselors who will encourage them to embrace the homosexual lifestyle.”

SB 572, signed by Schwarzenegger in 2009, establishes “Harvey Milk Day” in K-12 California public schools and community colleges. In classrooms, schools and school districts that participate, children will now be taught to admire the life and values of late homosexual activist and teen predator Harvey Milk of San Francisco the month of May. [Milk was also an advocate of cult leader Jim Jones, who led a mass suicide of his 900-plus followers in Guyana back in the late '70s.]

SB 777, signed by Schwarzenegger in 2007, prohibits all public school instruction and every school activity from “promoting a discriminatory bias” against (effectively requiring positive depictions of) transsexuality, bisexuality and homosexuality to schoolchildren as young as five years old. SB 777 means children will be taught their “gender” is a matter of choice.

AB 394, signed by Schwarzenegger in 2007, effectively promotes transsexual, bisexual and homosexual indoctrination of students, parents and teachers via “anti-harassment” and “anti-discrimination” materials, to be publicized in classrooms and assemblies, posted on walls, incorporated into curricula on school websites, and distributed in handouts to take home.

It should be noted that Gray Davis, Schwarzenegger's  Democrat predecessor, signed 3 pieces of legislation that promoted sexuality laws. "Lesser evil"? Schwarzenegger was not only more socially more liberal, but he left our state in a far worse financial position than the man we kicked out.

Lesser evil?

Hardly.

Pragmatism dumps values and principles every time, and for what? Its nothing but compromise which will lead to greater compromise. And it affects all of us, not just a few.

With such pragmatism of "conservatives" we don't need "liberals".

**Update**

*The "worse" of "the two evils" that "Christians" voted against by voting for Romney/Ryan, has found a friend in Paul Ryan to push their legalization of illegal aliens. Go here for the update.

*The GOP says the rule of law rhetoric re: illegal immigration is "horrific" and "hurts us".  Go here for this update.
