Biblical Christ Research Institute:
Those who object the most to discernment and biblical scrutiny, are those who most desire to move outside of its healthy confines. Often they are the true wanderers, aiming to captivate men with novelties and their earthly credentials. Fitting that the Greek word for some of them, who err in life and/or doctrine, is planetes. It is where we derive our word "planets". It is the imagery of planets wandering about in orbit. Such men are wandering and desire to lead others astray with them. They travel the broad road of common opinion, rather than suffer the persecution of narrow-minded discipleship with Christ. Those who are sound in the faith are often maligned by such wanderers, because the true disciple bends the knee to Christ, His sound doctrine, and sound practice, not men (Jude 1:13; Gal. 1:10; 2 Cor 5:9-10; 1 Tim. 4:16; Eph. 4:14).
