Restless Emergent Francis Chan Now Sings the Praises of Heretical IHOP Guru and False Teacher Mike Bickle

This picture is floating around the internet. That's Chan, Hinn, and Bickle.

The Cripplegate finally had someone realize Chan's an apostate --well they didn't say that exactly.  They're only 12 years late to the game. Why wasn't Chan's embracing of Mike Bickle (NAR heretic) enough? Certainly not Chan's Emergent Church Movement activies. Not his heresy on Hell. Not his social justice righteousness. Not his abandoning his church to traipse off to Asia for several weeks to try and suffer to see how awful American Evangelicals truly are. Not his embracing of disgraced, foul mouthed, filthy, unholy Acts 29 founder Mark Driscoll. Not his horrific love-sick-suitor god  as he romances the wicked person, on bent knee asking for you to say "yes" to his proposal of eternal life. The problem is that the heretics Chan's palling around with now are easy to spot so they don't post as much danger as those who sneak in and claim sound doctrine as they attach themselves to popular "solid" men. The men who are almost right, are the most dangerous of all. It's the Judas' that blend in for a time--talk the talk, "walk" the walk, until they start teaching their heresies. By then many Evangelicals are too smitten and seduced by their clever tricks & easy words of flattery and Christianese to let go of these men, in fact, they turn their sheep over to these heretics who snuck in.  Then they get mad when you warn the sheep of their favorite guy because they have attached themselves, their salvation in some cases, their ministry, their name, their conscience etc to these unprincipled men; attack the false teachers they love, and it's tantamount to attacking their "salvation", their ministry, their name, their conscience because of that attachment. THAT'S why it's wrong to ever attach yourself to men instead of Christ. For more on Chan (including what I've just listed) go here.

Some guy on Youtube said (rebuking the need to ever having to mention this again) that such a photo wasn't enough to tell someone to stop following a guy who hugs a heretic. Well, he's wrong. Scripture says even greeting a heretic makes a person guilty of his wickedness. Plus, Chan is warmly sharing the pulpit with White at a conference. Again, this is condemned by Scripture. 2John 9-11 can't be more clear. Titus 1:9 states that a true elder is to refute heretics, and Paul says that false teachers are to be silenced (Titus 1:1). That's the opposite of what Chan is doing.

In addition to all of that, it's good to remember that Chan also studied himself away from the sound doctrine of Hell and in 2016 wasn't sure if it's a place of eternal torment, calling himself "agnostic" on the issue. His co-writer, infamous confused-on-sodomy (at best) Reformer Preston Sprinkle who, like Chan once held to the sound doctrine but then went "agnostic" to now holding to annihilationism. Is there any surprise here? Sound doctrine is a unit or body of truth. When one begins to reject one sound doctrine, others follow. And this all comes down to one thing: lack of love and faith in what God has said in Scripture and instead, echoing Satan's voice in the Garden to Eve: Hath God said? Will you really die? The sound doctrine of eternal torment has everything to do with God's nature of righteousness, justice, and faithfulness to His Word. His false gospel of works is also condemning.

Both Lou Giglio and Lou Engle head up frenzied youth movements filled with excessive “passion” and mood-altering music at popular, packed stadium events. But do they teach the full Gospel of Salvation? There have been many similarities between the two over the years, but with Lou Giglio’s open association with Jesus Culture which Lou Engle endorsed as the new “mantle,” the questions can now be asked: Are they working together in similar alignment?

Do they share the same endtime goals and beliefs? Lou Engle’s prophecy (at the top of this post) links Jesus Culture to endtime prophecies that have been circulating in the Latter Rain movement since the late 1980s about a New Breed of youth, which is an “elect seed” that will fill stadiums. Now we come full circle to Francis Chan’s appearance along with the aforementioned Jesus Culture at theInternational House of Prayer (IHOP) Young Adult Conference 2013 One Thing, which just wrapped up Tuesday, December 31st.6 You can see above that IHOP extends from Mike Bickle of the nefarious Kansas City Prophets.7 ....

The clip following was taken by IHOP from Chan’s message during Session 8 on Monday, December 30. In my opinion IHOP is using Francis Chan’s comments at One Thing as propaganda in order to borrow Chan’s credibility within the wider evangelical community and promote their leader Mike Bickle.

How foolish of Francis Chan to just gush enthusiastically:

I go, man, there’s a lot of great things going on [at IHOP]. And today was the first time I ever met Mike Bickle. And, I love that guy. I do. And Mike knows—we talked about this—you know, there’s people who told me not to hang out with him.

Like, you know, words like “creepy” came up. And yet, I get to know this guy and I’m going, “Man, I love his heart. And I just want to publicly say I love Mike Bickle. (0:18-0:50)

I noted this conference when Chan, who ran away from his church in search of fulfilling his "restlessness", announced he was going to be speaking at this conference. Included are the extreme problems of IHOP and its perpetrators. I heard Chan say in the clip that he was warned about Bickle and after he did some internet research he was impressed with Bickle. This man was not unable to do research, nor would it have been prudent for him to search two words: "Bickle heresy. Easy enough to find out the truth about how bad the man is. But Chan didn't do his research as he should have.

To his utter shame.

Francis Chan, a leading influence within the young, restless and reformed within the New Calvinism, has said he loves Mike Bickle; Chan tells us he knows Bickle’s heart, and there’s so  much he is agreed upon with Mike Bickle and his cultic IHOP?4. And so we ask: Is Francis Chan really ok with this NAR mythology?

Finally, remember how we learned above that these prophet-leaders’ prophecies often don’t come true; well, below you’ll see NAR Apostle/Prophet Mike Bickle dealing his best to deal with that fact. He’ll try and explain how a prophet doesn’t need to be labeled false if his prophecy doesn’t come true. Rather, says Bickle, “he just missed it.”

Sorry about that Mike Bickle, God said the standard is perfection; a supposed prophecy that doesn’t come true makes one a false prophet because a true prophet of God never misses it. It is written:

 21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him. (Deuteronomy 18: 21-22)

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. (2 Peter 2:1)

And so in the end, we’re left with even more questions now that Francis Chan has so strongly endorsed false prophet Mike Bickle. For example, does Chan really think that God has somehow changed His mind and now He wants us to work in unity with these NAR dreamers who’re bringing in their destructive heresies?

Francis Chan On Fat Christians

Francis Chan's views of today's churches:

He writes that these Christians remind him of "the fattest people on earth" who have consumed so much food that they can no longer walk. "They are fed more and more knowledge every week. They attend church services, join small group Bible Studies, read Christian books, listen to podcasts and are convinced they still need more knowledge."

Chan explained that continually listening to the Word without applying it has made Christians' ears dull to God's call.

Chan summed, "True faith is when we believe He's going to reward us whether it be in life now or the life to come. We know there's a reward coming and God wants us to have that kind of faith."

The problem is that most of these churches aren't biblical, so they aren't feeding the sheep, but merely entertaining the goats. You can't blame the sheep on the goats' inability to obey the Shepherd.

The improper behavior of today's American Christian is actually a reflection upon their unbelief in Scripture. Let's start with Genesis 1-2 and I can prove it to you. Interesting Chan refers to Heb. 11:6 about pleasing God without faith is impossible, and yet the first three verses is about faith in the Genesis account of Creation.

The presumption there is no action to what they are hearing is false. Case in point: "One Thousand Gifts", "Purpose Driven Life", "Jesus Calling" and "50 Shades of Gray". Let's be honest: people ARE practicing what they are reading and hearing. It's just not biblical, that's all.

Social justice is NOT righteous spirituality. It is merely helping a fellow human being (let's define REAL "need" and REAL "poor" as well as REAL "brothers and sisters" first). Oprah is the master at that as is Rick Warren, but both are lost and without Christ Jesus.

You cannot walk by faith if you expect payment in return. That's not living by grace. The fact God does reward us (the verse he uses is about the revealing of God Himself, the nature of true faith, and the blessings in Heaven--not happiness now on earth---the list of martyrdom at the end of the very same chapter should've been clear to Chan on that).

Chan yet again sounds the trumpets like Oprah and Rick Warren with telling us how they are oh-so-spiritual in their giving "all the proceeds" to various social justice ministries (is Chan a member of a local church??). So, speaking of reward, this is all he's going to get.

I believe that the actual obese churches are the materialistic, mega churches. The ones that are so gluttonous, that they ask for money for missions while spending millions on the appearance of their building or church ground (do you really need a patio cover, fountain, several built-in bbq's, and a cafe? REALLY??). So yes, let's talk about the obesity of the churches...Because frankly there is a famine in the land for God's HOLY Word.

Francis Chan Heads Up Emergent Youth Specialties Conference

Francis Chan continues his plummet into ECM:

Last year Chan was involved in Exponential 08 which had some of the same Emergent leaders spewing their Post-Modernism.

The "Christian" Post reports:

Youth Specialties, one of the largest organizations equipping Christian youth workers, will be making some dramatic shifts this year at their popular convention.

One of the major changes includes featuring main session speakers who won't push the buttons of a theologically diverse crowd.

For years, Youth Specialties had brought in various speakers to the National Youth Workers Convention to cater to youth workers from different denominations, theological backgrounds and contexts.

"I think part of how we pursued that (serving a diverse crowd) is, to put it in a negative, we've almost built a convention where everybody has the opportunity to get pissed off or to get bugged by something," said Mark Oestreicher, president of Youth Specialties, in a webcast this week.

"It's like celebrating those differences was actually becoming divisive rather than bringing us together," he added.

Oestreicher explained that the organization received "so much more critique," some of which were ugly, from convention attendees last year who felt the youth workers organization was pushing an agenda of some sort.

One of last year's main sessions addressed the issue of homosexuality and youth. The featured speaker was Andrew Marin, president and founder of The Marin Foundation, an organization created to build bridges between the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT) and religious communities through scientific research, Biblical and social education.

This year's featured speakers will "address the heart and soul of youth ministry rather than hot button issues," Oestreicher said.

"We're trying to be very intentional to choose speakers that are not there to push buttons or raise issues as much as to speak to your soul as a youth worker, challenge you in areas of leadership or carrying out your calling but not like hot button theological topics," the YS president stressed.

Speakers for the main sessions (now termed "Big Room" rather than "General Session") this year include Francis Chan, pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley; Andy Stanley, founder of North Point Ministries; and Donald Miller, author of Blue Like Jazz.

While controversial topics such as homosexuality will not be discussed in the main sessions, Oestreicher noted that participants will still have the opportunity to engage in such discussions during the "labs" or seminars portion of the convention.

"It's not like we're trying to make this a vanilla event that is lowering the bar to the least common denominator so that we can all agree on everything and create some kind of false utopia," he stated.

Every year in the fall, Youth Specialties hosts three conventions. The 2009 National Youth Workers Convention will be held in Los Angeles, Cincinnati and Atlanta, respectively, beginning in September. More than 3,000 attendees are expected to attend each event.

So they still are offering their liberalism, but they want to keep their base broadened. It seems the president is ticked off at having to simmer down the brazen ungodliness. Oestreicher thinks that homosexuality is a hot theological topic, but its not. Scripture is clear: homosexuality is condemned by God and homosexuals will not go to heaven. Case closed. What GOD says is enough....but never enough for liberals.

Those of you who thought Chan was Reformed in any way, he's not. He's a pagan-friendly, man-centered teacher.

Diversity means disunity, Oestreicher. And there is no biblical unity with lies. In the words of World Net Daily, diversity is perversity. And the ECM is indeed pushing homosexuality and hate for God's Word and biblical doctrine with leads to godliness. For Youth Specialties to be amazed that some KNOW they have an agenda is just plain stupid.

Biblical doctrine isn't optional. Nor are God's commands. Homosexuality is not to be tolerated nor is foul language and course jesting or mixing pagan worldly practices with biblical Christianity.

November 7,2019:

Bible teacher and best-selling author Francis Chan announced he will be moving to Asia in February to be a missionary and challenged other Christians to ask themselves if they, too, are willing to boldly follow God’s call on their life. ~Christian Post

CNN reports :

“Even in my own church I heard the words, ‘Francis Chan’ more than I heard the words, ‘Holy Spirit’,” he said.

That was a big part of the reason he walked away at the peak of his professional career.

“I think there has been too much emphasis on me. I want to be used by God, but I think we have this desire to make heroes out of people rather than following God and the Holy Spirit.”

The Holy Spirit? The emphasis should be on Christ, not the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit glorifies Christ Jesus, and Christ Jesus glorifies the Father. Chan's concern about "The Holy Spirit" being talked about seems more along the lines of a Charismatic view than a biblical view. And I'm not saying we don't talk about what the Spirit of God is doind in our lives. But to have that be the focus instead of a man, is still not the right emphasis. In addition, for most men, being a pastor is a career, not a calling. You can quit a career, you can't quit the calling God has called you to.

And if he's so done with all that, then why is he still speaking around the us? Just like Piper...quit, but not totally---give it "all" up, but not really. This is fake humility. If he wants it to not be about him, then no more interviews, no more speaking engagements, no more books, and no more DVDs (and yup that's his latest angle).

More concerns: he claims he never made more than $36,000 which I don't believe, not in Simi Valley California, and not including all his speaking engagements, the Seminary of which he is president (the dude has enough money and time to spend on a surfboard and trapse around to go surfing--or was that just another gimmick for his dvd "Just Stop and Think" that they sent out to thousands of homes in Simi Valley?). Why is he so proud of how "little" he made? Why is he letting the left hand know what the right hand is doing?

"Chan plans to return to the states in January. He is already scheduled to appear at the Passion Conference in Atlanta, which has drawn a crowd of more than 20,000 in the past, and do a stint in the chapel at the NBA All-Star game in February."

See? If he's trying to escape being a celebrity "Christian" then why does he continue to feed the monster?

These celebrity "pastors" whine about being a celebrity, when they are the ones that fed into the whole thing by selling books and going on national or even international speaking engagements. Part of the problem is that they aren't shepherding their own flock...they are feeding their egos by going everywhere else...seminaries (don't we have enough of these man-centered things?), youth conferences, Emergent conferences, Desiring-I-Don't-Know-What-Kind -Of-God Conferences, book writing, etc., instead of sitting still and feeding his own flock. If you don't write books and go on speaking engagements, then you won't get "famous". Yeah, you'll "just" be a pastor. That's not too exciting for some who easily get bored apparently.

Flashback to April 2010:

Chan made clear that his decision to depart wasn't prompted by immorality, discipline or disputes within the church. Rather, he has long felt a restlessness and stirring to let go of the church he founded 16 years ago to "do something different."

"I started to just feel too much like this earth was my home in some ways – you know you just get your roots in and get comfortable. And then I started feeling this call and there's all sorts of fears," he said.

Just five years ago, Chan was struggling with whether he was willing to completely surrender himself to God. He realized he was and was willing to go anywhere for God.

At that time, his calling was with Cornerstone Church. Today, he's feeling a tug somewhere else.
The well-known preacher is still unsure of what his next adventure will be or where God is calling him to though he's feeling drawn toward Los Angeles. Part of him wants to go somewhere where he is unknown, he said. He also has a sense that he's being called to do church differently, not necessarily with formal Sunday services.

Chan will preach at Cornerstone through the end of May and participate in speaking engagements over the summer. He then plans to take his family to a third world country – possibly Thailand – where they will care for victims of the slave trade and orphans while spending time seeking the Lord.
After a few months overseas, Chan plans to launch something new at the beginning of next year. While fearful, he expressed full trust in God.

Sorry, but God doesn't call a pastor away from a flock like this. Chan has emphasized in youth ministry for a long time, and its not of HIM when a senior pastor wants to get out of his comfort zone--he by his own admission, has gotten bored and wants to move on to do something different. Being a pastor, a TRUE pastor IS to lay down your life for Christ Jesus and HIS sheep. Chan thinks it means giving up a house (but not speaking engagements and selling DVD's). And frankly I find it dishonest for him to whine about "stop making about ME" when HE'S the one making about him: his "little" salary, his celebrity, his comfort zone, etc. Then again that's his "gospel"---man-centered, so this is the fruit.

Contrast that to the maturity we see in someone like John MacArthur or Spurgeon, Gill, etc. Here's something interesting MacArthur said:

I am committed with all my heart to the church, and not just THE church in a generic sense, but this one. The average pastor stays in a church three years in America, just long enough to accomplish nothing. It's true. Three years. But I'll tell you one thing you do accomplish, you send a message very loud and clear to your congregation that you didn't make a commitment to that church, then try to convince them that they should for a lifetime. It's a tough sell.

In the eighteenth century in America, for example, seventeen hundreds, eighteenth century, 71 percent of pastors in that century at one church their whole life...71 percent. There was one particular church that was pastored by a father, a son and a grandson for 123 years. They only knew one family...one family. There was another church I read about in the eighteenth century where the pastor died and a young pastor came and married the widow...and so they knew that family and that new man. That was pretty typical. Men spent their entire life in the same church. Four percent of pastors in the eighteenth century had three churches. One was the norm, 71 percent. You gave your life to the church and then you could tell your people to give their life to the church. Pastoring a church wasn't climbing a ladder, it wasn't sort of a road for self-promotion. It was...it was like a marriage. In fact, when a person went to candidate at a church, the minimum stay was three months. You didn't go in there and preach two sugar-stick sermons which were a lot better than you could produce every week, and wow them, you know, with your best shot. You went for three months, maybe six months, maybe even a year. And at the end of that time they determined whether you would come. And then they had what was tantamount to a wedding and you made a commitment, a vow to the church. In today's environment there are lots of divorces. It's very hard if pastors aren't committed to local congregations to expect people to be. In fact, in some cases I think pastors move faster than people do. But this is a day of non-commitment, isn't it? This is a day of "I need my needs met." "I want fulfillment...I want to be happy," etc., etc., so we bounce along thinking we can find a more favorable place. That goes all the way down through our whole culture. Everything we do is that way and the church tends to accommodate that with a very high mobility in the pastorate and a very high mobility in the people. And even more than that, the people are looking for the briefest kind of association with the church. If you can hit me with a Sunday-night service, I'll really be happy, "one hour, I'm in there and out of there and don't mess up a whole day" mentality. And this shows up in the unwillingness of people to join the church.

My friend over at Discern The Time shared that "The 'Christian' Post" has reported that  Greg Laurie, Francis Chan, Mark Driscoll, David Platt, and Craig Groeschel fill in for false teacher Rick Warren.

LAKE FOREST, Calif. – Evangelist Greg Laurie filled in for Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren during worship services over the weekend and is the first of a string of well-known Christian leaders scheduled to speak from the pulpit while Warren continues to grieve his son's passing. Francis Chan on Hell: He can't be sure about eternal torment; not feeding the poor could send you to hell

Francis Chan has stated (on his article about Hell):

Jesus evidently hates it when we tear into our brothers or sisters with demeaning words, words that fail to honor the people around us as the beautiful image-bearing creatures that they are.

Then he goes on to say:

Yet many hellfire preachers are overfed and overpaid, living in luxury while doing nothing for the majority of Christians who live on less than two dollars a day. 

Oh the irony there.

Chan goes on to distort Matthew 5:

Jesus threatens hell to those who curse their brother (Matt. 5:22). He’s not warning drinkers or smokers or murderers. Jesus preaches hellfire against those who have the audacity to attack a fellow human being with harsh words. It’s ironic—frightening, actually—that some people have written books, preached sermons, or written blog posts about hell and missed this point completely. In fact, some people have slammed their Christian brothers and sisters in the process, simply because they have a different view of hell, missing the purpose of Matthew 5: Whoever calls his brother a fool may find himself guilty of hell.

Pitting Jesus against Paul who stated:

1Ti 1:10  the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,

1Co 6:9  Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 1Co 6:10  nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

Moreover both Paul and Jesus condemned sodomy as a damnable act.

Mat 11:23  And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

Luk 17:29  but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all—30  so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Does  Chan ever define "poor" or any of his other claims and terms when he states, "pastors who are overfed and overpaid, living in luxury,  while doing nothing for the majority of Christians who live on less than two dollars a day" ? Who exactly is doing nothing? How much is enough?

He goes on to say:

And what about the poor? Jesus is crystal clear about the necessity of reaching the poor. Yet many hellfire preachers are overfed and overpaid, living in luxury while doing nothing for the majority of Christians who live on less than two dollars a day. [2] Contrast that with Jesus, who in His longest sermon about judgment made helping the poor a vital criterion.

Put simply, failing to help the poor could damn you to hell.

I know, I know, everyone wants to qualify this. We want to add all sorts of footnotes to fix Jesus’ shaky theology in Matthew 25—justification is by faith, not by works; you don’t really have to help literal poor people, etc.... [3]

Let’s keep the teeth of both truths. There’s a literal hell, and helping the poor is essential. Not only did Jesus teach both of these truths, He saw them as necessary and interrelated.

However, the poor Jesus was referring to in Matthew 5, "the poor in spirit" that are blessed, is just that---those who recognize their spiritual poverty and look to Him for salvation. This has nothing to do with material goods at all. For a Master's Seminary grad, he should know better.

Jesus had shaky theology? What? And who says we don't have to help the literal poor people? Who exactly has ever stated that? Names, please, because I haven't met anyone who has ever said that and I grew up and have been in various churches all my life. That is nothing but a disingenuous straw man argument. And he's knowingly marrying works (feed the poor) to the Gospel, because Chan defends against "justification by faith and not works" AS "shaky theology" of Jesus. That's blasphemous. It is also a gospel of works. It is a social justice "gospel" which is damnable according to  Eph. 2:8-9, Gal. 1:7-9 and 1Cor. 15:1-2 for example.

Moreover James 2 states:

Jas 2:5  Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? 

God decides what state to place each person. Social justice is really an entirely different gospel. Indeed, Christians are to help with the poor as God gives opportunity and means, but we are not a welfare system nor are we to be about trying to eradicate poverty from the world. Jesus said we'd always have the poor with us. God also tells us in Scripture to be especially helpful with those within the household of God (Christians). But to say we'll go to hell if we don't, isn't biblical. It's phariseeism. After all, can the poor help the poor? Of course not. So are they a special class of Christians? If it's a command, it's a command to all, is it not? You can see the conundrum Chan gets himself into.

In an interview in 2011 on his book about Hell:

In your book you seem agnostic as to whether hell is a conscious eternal torment or annihilation.

That was one of the things I was a little surprised by: the language. I would definitely have to say that if I leaned a certain direction I would lean toward the conscious torment that's eternal. But I couldn't say I'm sure of that, because there are some passages that really seem to emphasize a destruction. And then I look in history and find that's not really a strange view. There are some good, godly men—and maybe even the majority—that seem to take the annihilation view. I was surprised because all I was brought up with was conscious torment. And I see that. I see that in Scripture and I would lean more that way but, I'm not ready to say okay I know it's this one. So say here "Here are a couple of views." I don't even remember if I wrote that I lean towards that, but maybe it comes across.

I'm still open. And I hope that's because of my study and not because I'd rather have the annihilation view. I don't know what was harder, researching or keeping a check on my heart and making sure there are no weird, ungodly motives in everything I wrote.

Scripture in both the Old Testament as well as the New is dogmatic on this:

Isa 66:24  "And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh."

Mar 3:29  but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an

eternal sin"--

Mat 25:46  And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Destruction is eternal. Just like the bush that burned in front of Abraham without being obliterated, so too will the soul who never repents of his sin.

Francis Chan Goes IHOP

We can safely say now that Francis Chan is IHOP/ NAR, just as Matt Chandler is Charismatic and both Emergent, for the same reason: repeatedly speaking at their unholy, anti-Christ conferences and embracing the leaders AS brothers in Christ. Chan defended heretic Bickle before while sharing the pulpit with him, and now joins yet another demonic conference, further digging his heels into the dung of demons.

Francis Chan: bash not the Lord's anointed (leaders)

In an article at the Christian Post, Chan, a Charismatic Emergent who promotes NAR leader Mike Bickle, misuses Scripture to try to silence criticism of church leaders, all the while criticizing his own old church. Interestingly he’s quite strong in his complaints against churches at large today (which he proceeds to touch on and specifically on his old church).

He says: "There are times to speak strongly," Chan said. "But let's remember the story of David with Saul. Where's that spirit in the church today? I just want to be careful with the Lord's anointed. We're surrounded by a culture that tries to reserve the strongest words to bash leadership.” ~Christian Post

David refrained killing King Saul, not from criticizing him:

1Sa 24:10  "Behold, this day your eyes have seen that the LORD had given you today into my hand in the cave, and some said to kill you, but my eye had pity on you; and I said, 'I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, for he is the LORD'S anointed.'

1Sa 24:11  "Now, my father, see! Indeed, see the edge of your robe in my hand! For in that I cut off the edge of your robe and did not kill you, know and perceive that there is no evil or rebellion in my hands, and I have not sinned against you, though you are lying in wait for my life to take it.

Besides that, elders aren't anointed--kings were. Elders aren't kings, although many act as if they are. We have no prophets today like in the OT times. Leaders aren’t prophets.

And Chan’s reference to James 1:19 about being slow to speak, quick listen and slow to become angry is a classic misinterpretation/application of that verse to shut down scrutiny. If you notice, James 1:19 is sandwiched in between verses about Scripture. This isn’t about silencing critics nor for that matter, is it about communication skills with people, but it’s about trials, sin, God’s Word confronting it and how we are to submit to what it says.

Jas 1:18  In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

Jas 1:19  This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;

Jas 1:20  for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

Jas 1:21  Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

Jas 1:22  But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

Interestingly a few verses after that, in the next passage, James confronts us about the sin of partiality---probably the biggest unrepentant sin of nearly all of self-proclaimed Evangelical leaders today next to pride:

Jas 2:1  My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.

But going back to James 1:19 I’d like to point out that it is akin to what John says:

1Jn 1:6  If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;

1Jn 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

1Jn 2:4  The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;

I supposed it hasn't occurred to Chan that his view has aided in a corrupt leadership within the Evangelical Machine, sometimes leaving concerned sheep with no other outlet. But I believe for the most part, it’s not as perhaps Chan is inferring, as a way to get back at a leader (although that’s true for some and you can see how embittered and personal they are in their attacks), but rather, a way to warn others of an unprincipled, unqualified man.

To be sure slander is obviously sin, but rightly criticizing unbiblical, unprincipled men who are in practice overlords instead of slaves who contain their authority to solely that which Scripture says, isn't unbiblical: it’s warranted. In fact 1John 4:1 demands we vigorously test all teachers and their teachings. The standard that a faithful Christian uses to vigorously test all teachers both in doctrine and in practice, is Scripture. Elder and teachers aren’t untouchable nor are they above criticism. Of all people, they are held to a stricter judgement (James 3:1).We see multiple warnings of names named in Scripture of unbiblical leaders or prominent people the local church (2 Tim. 2:16-18; 2Tim. 4:14-15; 3 John9-11).  

Contrary to biblical leaders, unqualified leaders don’t limit their authority to where and on what Scripture teaches but instead on personal preference, their flesh, traditions, personalities, good ole boy club; and they often do so by redefining of terms, misinterpret and misapply Scripture, and this often stems from the sin of partiality.  There is a reason why God has given a list of specific requirements of church leaders and none of them are suggestions. They define who is and is not qualified and they hold together as a unit. It is to say, the biblical requirements all rise or fall together. This sifts out men who want to be leaders but aren’t qualified (and yes, Chan believes women can teach and lead men, thus proving again that he is unqualified to teach much less lead Christians).

When a teacher teaches at a church or conference, he is open to public scrutiny. Because of their sin of partiality, they don’t heavily scrutinize themselves but rather, as Chan does, circle the wagon and declare “hands off!”. Redefining criticism as “bashing” is Chan’s way of deflecting accountability and therefore blaming people who see their hypocrisy and error. It’s his way of placing guilt upon the sheep instead of where it often is due: the leadership. God dealt with Israel’s leadership first, foremost, and harshly because they were grossly sinning in His name and leading the people into sin (Jer. 23, 32, Lam. 1-4, Is 30 for example). 

Mat 20:25  But Jesus called them to Himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.

Mat 20:26  "It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant,

Mat 20:27  and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave;

Mat 20:28  just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

Act 17:11  Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

1Pe 5:1  Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed,

1Pe 5:2  shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;

1Pe 5:3  nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.

Even worse, is that Caine is a Word of Faith pastor which means not only is she in rebellion in regard to her role of teaching men (both at her "church" AND at the Passion conference which has men in its audience), but the content of her teach is heretical.

As I said before, these Calvinists like Piper, Keller, and  Driscoll don't believe in Scripture only, therefore they are feminists and have no problem having women teach men which is a glaring violation of God's holy and precious Word.  

Piper continues to scoff and mock  the Word and Its Author by doing this.

2014 Catalyst Conference (Dallas) Promotes Contemplative Spirituality: speakers include Craig Groschel and Phyllis Tickle

The event, called “Catalyst Dallas,” was sponsored by Atlanta-based Catalyst and featured speakers Craig Groeschel of LifeChurch.tv, filmmaker Ryan Leak, corporate management expert Patrick Lencioni and author Jen Hatmaker, among many others.

A common theme throughout Catalyst Dallas was the work of Roman Catholic mystics Thomas Merton, Thomas Keating and Henri Nouwen.

In a workshop Tuesday afternoon, Phileena Heuertz led the audience in a “centering prayer,” which detractors argue opens the door to altered states of consciousness and possibly occult influences.

According to author Phyllis Tickle, there are “seven ancient disciplines,” including centering prayer, or “fixed-hour prayer,” that are making a comeback among younger Christians. Included in these disciplines is the practice of solitude and “centering prayer.”

However, Ken Silva, director of Apprising Ministries, said he was dismayed at the presence of the mystical form of prayer at Catalyst.

He notes its growth among mainstream evangelicals through the influence of the Emerging Church movement, which has promoted it as a core doctrine. For the past couple of years he has seen it recommended by influential evangelicals such as Rick Warren.

Francis Chan Continues To Focus On Suffering

Chan is an unsound teacher. He continually focuses on suffering. It's as if he wants to suffer (literally) and if he can't, he'll do it vicariously through those who do. The view that Teresa of Calcutta had--that suffering makes us closer to Jesus--is echoed in the quote below and it is not biblical. This is twisted thinking on suffering and calling people to suffer---all for an experience. While we are called to suffer for Christ, its only according to His will. We aren't to obsess over it nor are we to seek it. We aren't to idolize it either nor see it as Romanists do---as a means to get a spiritual experience, without which we won't *really* know Jesus intimately.

The Christian Post reports:

"They tell me, 'When I was surrounded by these soldiers, I felt the presence of Jesus in there with me. Now that we are back in Seoul, I am trying to experience that intimacy with Him but I can't. I fast and I pray and I don't feel it. I would rather be back there because of the intimacy I had with him.'"

Chan then suggested that the presence of Jesus that these Christian missionaries felt while they faced the threat of execution is probably similar to what certain martyrs in the Bible experienced before they were killed.

"Is there a special fellowship that we share in that suffering that we will miss out on because we just think comfort is everything and we just want to pull everyone into our comfort and into our civilian affairs rather than joining in their suffering and losing our life so that we can actually find something so much better?"

It's interesting that Chan doesn't deal with biblical doctrine and the persecution that happens inside the churches because of the hostility against the Truth by most profess "Christians". That's where persecution begins and that's where God will judge first. 

1Pe 4:17  For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 

1Pe 4:18  AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER? 

1Pe 4:19  Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right. 

Col 2:21  "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" 

Col 2:22  (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)--in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? 

Col 2:23  These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence. 

1Pe 3:17  For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.
