First there was Jordan Roots, who was exposed in 2015 to be a pedophile, although whether he has sexually assaulted any children is in question.
Now there's Matthew Tonne, a youth staff at Charismatic Emergent Matt Chandler's Acts 29's The Village Church who has been charged this week by the DA with sexual assault which occurred in 2012.
The church stated in part:
"We anticipate and understand questions about why Matt Tonne left staff and whether this case had anything to do with his transition. We removed Matt from The Village Church staff in June of 2018 for other reasons, and we communicated those specific issues to our staff, as well as to members and volunteers in his ministry department at that time." (bold, red, my emphasis)
Bad doctrine, bad leadership, bad practice. It's not theory. It's real. And it affects lives.
