Abiding

Abide": 102 times uses in the NT, 61% of which was used by the apostle John.
menō
men'-o
A primary verb; to stay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy): - abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for), X thine own.

We are to abide/stay/remain/dwell/endure in: the Word, the Truth, in Christ, in His love. God also is said to abide/stay/remain/dwell/endure in us.
If one does not remain or stay in the Scriptures, he is NOT a true disciple. Many false disciples were flocking to Jesus when He did miracles and fed their stomachs for free, but the moment He taught about their sin and the exclusivicity of Himself as the sole ways and means of salvation, they left Him in a final way--they abandoned Christ Jesus "never to walk with Him again". That was the 5,000 + that He had just fed! The road is NARROW and FEW that find it.
Joh 8:31  So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32  and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
