Spurgeon Speaks: your temperament will destroy you

It is idle to say, “I cannot help it, it is my temperament.” Your temperament will  destroy you, as surely as you live, if the grace of God does not destroy your  temperament.

~Spurgeon

What you were born with is a sin nature and that's no excuse for your sin. If you are truly in Christ, you indeed can help it because you have a new heart with the Holy Spirit indwelling you and we have the Word of God which is appropriate for matters for life and godliness.

Indeed, our sinful nature is in direct disobedience with God and His Word.  What comes "naturally" to us, whether worry or anxiety, arrogance, domineering, seek for control, lack of trust, obsessing over things, rebellion ("you aren't the boss of me" attitude)--such  things are  of the flesh and need to be repented of. It is a spiritual issue.

Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Gal 5:23  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Gal 5:24  Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Gal 5:25  If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
Gal 5:26  Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

Php 2:12  So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;
Php 2:13  for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
